Sports Clubs Welfare Officers' CPD Evening -  Monday 26 October 2015
The purpose of this evening is to update volunteer welfare officers from sports clubs on current topics and national policy direction, develop knowledge/understanding and skills to better deal with safeguarding situations that they may have to deal with. We are delighted and humbled to welcome guest speakers from the Breck Bednar Memorial Foundation, Child Protection in Sport Unit (part of NSPCC), GBGroup (the country's largest provider of DBS checks) and Surrey Police.

The event will take place at Imber Court Sports Ground, Ember Lane, East Molesey KT8 0BT, from 6:30pm - 9:30pm on Monday 26 October 2015. The agenda for the evening is as follows:
• 6:15 - 6:30pm - arrive
• 6:45pm - 7:15pm - The Breck Bednar Memorial Foundation - Breck Bednar was a 14 year old boy, from Caterham, Surrey, who loved technology and on-line gaming. He was groomed via the internet and sadly murdered on February 17th 2014 by someone he met on-line. A speaker from the Breck Foundation will join us an give an inside perspective on the risks that online grooming pose to children and young people everywhere.
• 7:15 - 7:45pm - Nick Slinn (Child Protection in Sport Unit, NSPCC) - Understanding grooming for abuse
• 7:45 - 8:25pm - Workshops (see below for details)
• 8:30 - 8:55pm - Janet Blake (GBGroup) - Safer recruitment and the role of DBS
• 8:55 - 9:30pm - Surrey Police - Local overview on safeguarding and top tips for sports clubs
